 RedHat Linux HTTP and HTTPs configuration

1 Purpose of document

Purpose of this document is to explain how to configure web service on Redhat Linux using generic applications (httpd, mod_ssl and openssl).  

2 Install Web Service on RedHat Linux (Port 80)

2.1 Install httpd package

# yum install httpd

2.2 Start HTTPD service

# service httpd start

2.3 To auto start http (Port 80) at next reboot

# chkconfig httpd on

2.4 How to check httpd service running

# service httpd status

2.5 Enable http service in Linux Firewall

# firewall-cmd –add-service http

2.6 Check opened ports in Linux

2.7 Testing http (port 80) connection

telnet ipaddress  port

#telnet 10.10.1.4 80

3 Install and configure SSL (Port 443)

3.1 Install ssl modules

# yum install mod_ssl

# yum install openssl

3.2 Enable https service in Linux Firewall

#firewall-cmd –add-service https

3.3 Check opened ports in Linux

nmap -sT -O 10.10.1.4

3.4 Testing https (port 443) connection

telnet ipaddress  port

#telnet 10.10.1.4 443
